In 2012, at the young age of 20, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. I was told I could never be cured and that the best hope was to prolong my survival past the two year prognosis. I underwent numerous treatments, had multiple surgeries and faced many challenges along the way, but despite this I remained optimistic. I was determined that I would overcome my illness and developed an ability to see the positives in everything. I did not want my situation to bring me down, instead, I used it as a platform to bring new and meaningful opportunities into my life.

Three years post diagnosis and feeling better than ever, I was motivated to share what I had learnt with others and began public speaking. I wanted to empower others to take control of their lives, and give them the courage to start creating the life that they envision for themselves despite their circumstances or perceived barriers. So I developed a message of gratitude, resilience and self belief inspired from my own challenges and life experiences, and have since been sharing that message far and wide.

Speaker:

Lachlan Mullen inspires people. He speaks about the challenges he experienced and how he overcame them. All the while taking his audience on a ride of the deepest lows and astounding highs. Subsequently navigated by this extraordinary young man and his incredible maturity and courage.

Lachlan began training as a Public Speaker in 2016. He felt he had a story to share. Above all, a story of gratitude, resilience, and self-belief. It’s a powerful and uplifting story of a young man who defied the odds of his cancer diagnosis. He faced his life’s challenges with an attitude from which we can all learn.

Lachlan was a healthy non-smoker of only 20 years of age. So his diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer was completely unexpected. He was told to expect an outcome that would have crushed the strongest of souls. But, Lachlan made a conscious choice to approach his circumstances and life with positivity.

Many physical and mental challenges presented themselves, all of which Lachlan faced with a positive outlook. With the uncertainty of his future, the way in which he conducted himself is an inspirational tale of the power of the mind.

Now, more than five years since Lachlan’s diagnosis, his health and wellbeing are a strong reflection of his attitude towards life.

As a well-received speaker at events and functions, Lachlan talks about his diagnosis and the effect it had on him. More importantly, he tells how he overcame it and of his gratitude for the support he received along the way.

It’s impossible to hear Lachlan speak and not come away feeling inspired. His audience regularly comments on how grateful, and positive they feel afterwards, in regards to what their own lives have in store for them.

Naturopathy:

Lachlan first discovered the benefits of holistic medicine in 2013 after being told there was no cure for his diagnosis and given two years to live. With nothing to lose he turned to Naturopathy in the hope that he could improve his prognosis.

Originally Lachlan had little idea of what Naturopathy involved, but it soon became evident to him that it was a valuable practice. Not just for those suffering an incurable disease like he was, but for everyone, as a tool to support the mind and body, and improve quality of life. The more he discovered about Naturopathic principles, the more he was convinced that he needed to change aspects of his lifestyle.

Exercise was already a big part of Lachlan’s life, but as his understanding of the nutritional value of food increased, he began altering his diet to optimise the intake of vitamins and minerals as opposed to just satisfying his hunger. He felt that this played a crucial role in his recovery from the numerous surgeries that he has had over the years and reduces the side effects of his current treatment.

It is now six years since Lachlan’s diagnosis and his health has improved in ways that were previously thought impossible. He has defied his two year prognosis, and is in the 1% of stage 4 lung cancer patients to live past five years, a statistic which continues to remind him just how lucky he is.

Lachlan began his formal studies in Naturopathy in 2014, after developing a love for its key principle of discovering and addressing the root cause of the problem, rather than just treating the symptoms.

In July of 2019, Lachlan will graduate as a fully qualified Naturopath. Lachlan aims to open his own practice where he can have a positive impact on people’s lives, just as he experienced.

Testimonials:

Thanks very much for speaking at our Anniversary Gala Dinner on Saturday night. The feedback we received from our guests on the night was magnificent. Everyone was truly inspired and touched by your story. Afterwards, I couldn’t think of anyone I know who wouldn’t benefit from hearing you speak. Your key messages of resilience and positivity are ones that are sorely needed in today’s society. You should be very proud of yourself, and your Mum, as I am sure she is just as proud of you. I very much look forward to recommending you as a Public Speaker to anyone I know who is planning an event or function. Here’s wishing you the best of luck with your speaking career. I suspect you will go far, and help many people along the way. Thanks again.
